7 months ago the idea to create a giant art installation made up of ceramic heart imprints for Love Your Sister was merely scribbles on a piece of paper sitting on my bed side table, today the top floor of our studio is covered with hearts waiting to be framed. We have collected close to $50k in heart imprint contributions and we prepare to bring “A heart as big as yours” to Canberra, Queensland and Melbourne in the next 4 weeks in the hope of completing the artwork!
It’s been a humbling experience to say the least but I continue the project with a heavy heart as Connie’s condition worsens and there is still so much left to do.
Back in February when I met Connie for the first time she was on active treatment but just a few months later all cancer treatment was ceased as her body was simply not strong enough to cope. Knowing that time was of the essence I decided to accelerate the project with the hope of finishing it in record time for her to see..just as she had wished. What followed was a sea of generous people offering me contributions and their “thumbs up” so I could create their fingerprint heart. This simple little heart has and still is making its way through the media and celebrities are jumping on board to show their support, it’s been incredible and I am grateful to everyone who has been involved.
As we approach the half way mark of the artwork only 10 panels remain (there were 25 frames and 2000 hearts to begin with) and to take the project to another level of speed I am now seeking the assistance of 10 generous businesses or groups of 20 or more to sponsor a panel to help us reach the finish line. One panel of 81 hearts requires a contribution of $4050 and 100% tax deductible. Employers or groups can engage their staff or team and build team morale by getting behind a project that will fund cancer research. Most recently we had beauty giant Dermalogica and USA based IT company Service Rocket involved by hosting a heart imprint station at their workplace and using it as a team building opportunity. Each sponsored panel will proudly include your business or groups name on the frame and will be a lasting legacy at the Garvan Institute in Sydney. If you own a business or know a generous business owner that would love to get behind this once in a lifetime project please share this post or contact me for further information.
My hope and prayer everyday is for Connie to be the first person to see the artwork complete as she was the inspiration behind “A heart as big as yours”. I made it to represent the legacy of love she leaves behind, Love your sister’s incredible contribution to cancer research and is dedicated to everyone who’s lives have all to often been affected by cancer.
“A heart as big as yours” is a symbol of hope and commitment as a community to find a cure for cancer. With your help let’s make this humble dream a reality and in the wise words of Samuel Johnson “Kick cancer in the face- hole”.
