I am the proud mummy to two beautiful girls Millie and Lucia and married to my best friend Andrew. Before my family arrived into my life I spent 13 years building my business from the ground up. I started from a small room in my parent’s house travelling around Sydney as a freelance photographer. In 2007 I opened my first studio in Leichhardt, and 7 years later we moved to a bigger premises and opened our Lilyfield studio in 2014.
Ever since I was a child I always had an obsession for creating. I loved creating hand made items for my friends and family, so naturally when I discovered my passion for photography and other artistic mediums at university (I graduated from a bachelor of fine arts degree at UNSW in 2000) I felt it would be the perfect career path for me as it meant that I could create beautiful memories for families and if I worked hard enough could make a living out of it, at the time I had big dreams and I was just 20 years old.
Confucius says “Do what you love and never work a day in your life” so that is exactly what I did when I began. I always loved the purity of photographing babies and being around the playfulness of young families. I surrounded myself with that joy and produced images that reflected how I felt about being around my customers. 15 years later that feeling hasn’t changed and I still love what I do which I am so grateful for.
In 2008 I wanted to take another leap of faith, my goal was to create a range of handmade keepsakes for my customers that was not already on the market. Ceramic making was another favourite medium of mine so I decided to experiment with clay and my photography. The final result was now a tangible aspect to my work and Marie Ramos Photography & Baby Imprints was born.
What was to follow was a dream, 2 years after launching the product we won the award for Best Specialised Business in the Inner West and have been consistent business finalists both locally and nationally since 2010. Thanks to celebrities such as Jackie O, Mary Coustas, Catriona Rowntree and most recently Kate Ritchie, they too have given Baby Imprints their own stamp of celebrity approval which for a small business like mine has been absolutely priceless.
Aside from owning a small business I am deeply invested in giving back to our local community. Every year we select a charity close to our hearts, and volunteer our time and efforts to focus on giving back. To date we have raised over $25,000 for Miracle Babies Foundation, The Starlight Foundation, Westmead Children’s hospital, The McGrath Foundation, Hands Across the Water and numerous other charities and local school fundraisers. My personal dream is to donate a total of $100,000 by 2020 and doing so one photograph at a time.
So going back to the beginning, I am Marie the photographer but my proudest title in the world is being called mummy to my girls and being the wife to my amazingly handsome and supportive husband. After so many years of photographing young families I now have one to call my own. My children have taught me how precious and fleeting life is and they inspire me everyday to keep on creating unique ways of capturing their childhood while I can still cradle them in my arms. My business was the created out of a simple wish as a child to make handmade items for my friends and family, now I am blessed to be able to share my passion with the world, and most of all my girls Millie and Lucia who are my best achievement yet.
