When you dedicate a year of your life to charity and the community, it’s hard to come out the other side the same person. It changed me for-ev-er. Creating ‘Connie’s Heart’ and donating over $110,000k towards cancer research through Love Your Sister was one of the most rewarding moments of my life but I was not prepared for the emptiness that was to follow when the artwork was completed. I had won the race to the finish line, but when the adrenaline wore off I felt completely lost.
It’s been 8 months since the project and I apologise for the radio or shall I say “social media” silence. I’ve been a bear, hibernating in my beautiful new den and now I can finally say that I’m ready to open up and celebrate this fresh new chapter in my life… with you.
One thing that I did learn about myself during this time was to embrace the new person I had become and to keep it real, basically eliminate the crap and keep life simple. ‘Connie’s Heart’ reminded me how fleeting and unfair life can be sometimes, so I made the conscious decision to take care of myself and my mind, remove excess clutter, surround myself with positive people, adopt a healthy way of eating clean, and keep my loved ones closer than ever before. I cut my work schedule down to 20hrs per week so I could be present for my eldest who started kindergarten, and have more time to watch my youngest grow. I took up gardening and have become obsessed with plants (my idea of a perfect day out is a trip to Flower Power) and the team and I moved out of the inner west and relocated the studio of 10 years to the beautiful suburb of Lane Cove. We moved to be closer to home but we also moved to a smaller space to simplify work life. While expansion for the business was always on my radar, my goal now is to be more present for my husband and young kids and trust the rest will fall into place naturally. When we moved 6 weeks ago we hit the ground running and since my “cleanse”, the business at the new studio is thriving with customers loving the warm home like studio. On Saturday the 7th of July we will be opening our doors and we welcome everyone in our community to come in and say hello, there will be a food of course and a complimentary gift bag filled with great offers from us and other local businesses too. It’s a celebration of the new person I have become, rich in service with the aim of community service as an integral part of my business structure and doing it all with my core values at the top of my list. So watch this space for the new changes that will be rolling out soon..
Have a great day and looking forward to seeing you and your family on the 7th of July!
